In Windows 10 I can use WMI, but it seems that Microsoft has removed this download from their website which supports Windows 98.
NAT will work, but you won't be able to ping or access any resources in your own network (which is a bad thing if you have a fileserver at home and wish to access it on a VM).
The last time I mailed Chris he said that we was going to get one of his friends to go knocking on Paul's door at the college where he resides to see if he is still alive.
Rob, 32 but installer is fine with me, my thought on a 64 bit version of the install is for example if you are targeting Access 2010 64, does that need a different driver that the 32 bit version of Jet?
What I like is having the flexibility of using the beatmapper, which is a godsend for sampling and cutting.
Nov 16, In reply to: Windows 98compatible Flash Drive Is there a company that will let me download a driver for my W98SE for a flash memory if I purchase theirs?
IMO the damned thing is so twitchy and unstable it should never have been released, whereas 98 by comparison just keeps on going, just like NT4 SP6a which I believe to be far more stable than either 2K or XP.
Got an XP guest running at the same time for testing and while I didn't bother to try and set up NAT between the two guests I've had no problem with networking.
Debian developer who 'got rid of build errors' by commenting out 2 very critical lines of source code put hundreds of thousands or millions of users in jeopardy (because of weak SSL keys generated with insufficient randomness).
Fusion mostly to run Solaris on my Mac, plus a tiny Windows instance to support an X10 adapter and a Brother label printer, and I've not played a computer game since wasting a day on ADVENT in 1983.
Refactoring the code (a term that didn't exist for another twenty years) to use subroutines, sequential conditionals (the equivalent of a Select or Switch statement), and state variables was required just to be able to successfully debug the code.
New concepts are generally developed by research teams, either funded by corporations or working for academia or the government.
I'd personally never install the installer on a development machine, since this will remap all of your DLLs and OCXs to the installation folder, instead of the original files, and getting the originals back can be a real nightmare.
I'd use any of the regular imaging tools, such as Clonezilla, Ghost, etc, to take an image of the Win 98 machine, create an empty virtual machine and restore the image to that.
For many years (long after the introduction of Windows XP) I ran a collection of old Windows 9x desktop PCs.
But there are truly open companies such as Red Hat that even though there are clones using the Red Hat source (such as Cent OS) Red Hat still has yet to go bankrupt from that.
However, it is in Microsoft's business interest to push users of those products into upgrading to newer Microsoft products, for which they'll gain license revenue AND lower support costs associated with discontinuing support for those old products.
Everyone knows that ever hapless Windows 98 is mired in an irrecoverable and mortifying tangle of fatal trouble.
Furthermore the browser in Studio One is actually better than Acid, because you have the same type explorer view with loop preview, but you also have tabs for the FX, instruments, and your media pool, all right there too.
Despite what many people in my industry have thought, it continues to garner market share, and its popularity as a server is slowly growing.
Linux needs to increase its ability to adapt to the constanly growing demand with enterprise servers are placed under, and unless its ability to scale is improved then it will never truly suceed in this growing market.
Remember, Debian is considered to be the most stable distribution because they freeze it for at least 3 month and spend a lot of time on testing.
I've got half a rack full of 32 bit machines that haven't even been turned on for a couple of years at least because just about everything newer at any speed uses less power and produces less heat.
For example, if I understand correctly, this is basically what happened with WineX, the custom Wine port for Cedega.
This is an issue of third party Libraries be aware that OCX do not register by default in most cases.
P3 around occasionally most of those died ages ago thanks to the cheap caps they used back then so what I see the most of, and by most of i mean fricking insane amounts of, is those damned Pentium 4s.
If you can start a collection for longevity antioxidants (and Smart drugs) for me, I will guarantee there will be one person still using XP (and VB6).
As a fully qualified IT consultant working on a report into the freeware phenomenon exemplified by the Linux operating system, I am heartened to see that Linux is still riding the crest of the wave of its recent popularity.
NAT, the bug reports had windows hosts and Linux guests, my situation had Windows and Linux guests on a Linux host.
Like its competition, it can run other OSes in rootless, rooted, or seamless modes display modes (where all the applications have their windows mixed at the same time).
VMWare and Parallels seem to be better choices if you can afford them, but hopefully being free as in beer and GPL will allow it to catch up rapidly and make the ongoing competition even better.
Packard Bells and Dells and the such with Windows 98 OEM copies are not going to be able to do Windows Updates and are basically going to have to upgrade to another PC if they want support.
The funny thing is, I'm also running Zonealarm and a private FW, but it's nice to know the next time some mega XP worm launches it won't affect me too badly.
